How do I register a symbol which is not included in my list? |
To register a code you need to follow these steps :
- Find out the symbol code .
- Go to the Menú Chart -> Open chart.
- Select in the exchange list the exchange corresponding to the code you wich to add and write down the code in symbol code.
- Then click in the icon with the magnifying glass.
- To finish select the chart options and click in Ok.

I need more historical data for a certain share or futur, ¿which steps do I need to follow ? |
By default Visual Chart downloads one month historical data for intraday charts, therefore if you need more historical data follow these steps:- Once the chart is openened
- SelectData in the main menu and select Intraday Download
- Then click in the pop up window and chose the beginning and end date for the chart historical data (Remenber not to chose any bank holiday , saturday or sunday as beginning date ) the end date is not relevant..
- Then clik in "LOAD".
- Remenber that the option "Symbol Management" of the data menu will be activated by default, you will have to unmark it if you want to use the "intraday download option".

How can I remove or add historical data from a chart without opening it again? |
To remove historical data from a chart without opening it again follow these steps:
- Select the data source by left clicking a bar in the chart..
- Then right click the chart with the mouse and select the option Object properties. .
- In the appearing dialog box click the tab Compression and modify the fields first date and last date by indicating the period you do want to visualize.
- If you want to add historical data you need to do a previous data downloading in your data base.
- To finish Apply and Ok.

The Real Server is not conected , why? |
If the realserver is disconnected check the following details :
- Make sure you are not getting any error message as invalid usermame or by being connected from another terminal with the same logins.
- Chek in the menu Files -> options, that the configuration of the data service is the proper one. The username and password must be correct , the connecion port must be 40010 and the server best fit.
- If you are connecting via a proxy the option proxy must be activated and the access to the connexion port 40010 must be granted in the proxy.
- Check that your antivirus of firewall is not blocking Visual Chart´s connexion
- Try to access to some Websites specially Visual Chart one http://www.visualchart.com.
- From ms-dos environnement run the telnet command to one of our servers to see if you get an answer or an error message (For example 212.162.50.202 40010). From start -> programs -> accesories you will find the icon of the system giving access to MS-Dos.
- If you have cheked all this options and you are still not able to connect even if you have obtained proper results you can contact our custommer support and they will check the problem.
- If you don´t manage to open any website you will have to get in touch with your interner provider because this could be a problem with your internet connexion, but always remenber to make sure that your pc´s securitys system are not blocking your internet access.

The indicators, studies and systems have disappeared from the selection dialog box, what can I do? |
The reason is that the folder catalog.dat has been corrupted.To solve this problem follow these steps:
- Close Visual Chart 4 .
- Download the folder catalog.dat.
- Save it in : c:/program files/vchart4/data/general/ (or in the directory where the application is installed).
- Overwrite the existing file.
- Run the application again .
- Compile again all your customize strategies, indicators and studies by going to the meny Files -> Strategies -> Publish all vba projects.

I want a message in my cell phone when one of my price alert is triggered How can I do it? |
To configure alerts messages via sms follow these steps :
- Go to the menu Files -> Options and select Alerts
- Different form to receive the alerts are available , these alerts can be activated over prices , indicators strategies, lines crossovers etc..
- Among these possibiliteis you will find the icon corresponding to Alert configuration via sms
- Click this icon and fill the dialog box with the corresponding details :
- Activate the field Enable mobile phone notification (sms notification) and send test message .
- You need to indicate the account provided by your phone company to be able to get the alerts via the mobile phone.
- To finish click in OK and you will get a trial message to confirm that the configuration has been made successfully
- Remenber that this functionnality requires an email program as outlook express in your computer..

How can I use the DDE link to export data from a quote list in to excell? |
To link the data of a quote list to an excell sheet via dde follow these steps : - Open a quote list in visual chart with the shares or futurs you do want to export to excell.
- Clik on the quote Menu , and then select the option Export Copy links to Excel .
- Open an excell sheet and then Edit and Paste in the cell A1.

How can I set up a template in order to get my chart configured straight away with my colours representation type , indicators and studies without having to set it up everytime? |
To set up a template follow these steps:
- Open a chart and set up your personal parameters (bar colors , indicators ,type of representation...)
- To save this configurationa as a template right click the chart with the mouse.
- Click the option Template Save as template...
- Chose a name for the template.
Then if you want to apply this template to another chart follow these steps:
- Open the chart
- Right click with the mouse anywhere on the chart and select the option Apply template
- Selet the template you wish to use and then OK
- This way the chart will be configured straight away the way you need.
If you wish to apply a template everytime you open a chart the steps to follow are the following ones.:
- Clik in visual chart File menu and then Options...
- In the configuration dialog box select Charts and then mark the case "Apply template when opening the charts "
- Right clik in the grey square to see the template list.
- Select the ones you need.

Some values are not updating . Why? |
If some values are not up-to -date check the following details : Check if the value has changed its code.- Go to Chart -> Open chart in new window
- Insert in Symbol code the name of the value
- Click in the magnifying glass
- If the value appears in the dialog box and the code is different to the one on the chart select it and click in OK.
- If you wish to save the chart in the same window all you need to do is press ctrl + m and you will be able to change the value code by keeping the same chart configuration.
- If you get a mesage "Search Error " this is because there is no value matching this description or code. Make sure the search criterias are the proper ones and do the search again..
If you now for sure that the code has not changes.: - From the menu data click in Fill Gaps or run an intraday download of the value from the date it stops updating up to the current date and make sure the gap has been filled in the chart. To do the intraday download check this faq
- Make sure by double clicking the real server icon that they are not any Active Queries pending .When all the charts will be correctlly updated this value will be 0
- Check that the folder containing the historicall data is not protected as "Read Only ". .
- To check it you need to click on the icon correponding to the file that you will find in the folder of the market the symbolo belongs to, (For example 010034Eurus.min corrspond to the intrada folder of eurodollar and you will find it in c:\programfiles\vchart4\realserver\data\01\0034
- All you need to do is right click the folder with the mouse and then go to properties and check that the "read only" mode is not activated
- If the chart is still not updating we recomend you to delete the file inside the corresponding folder and open the chart again or if you still don´t manage to solve the problem contact our custommer support.

I am an End Of Day customer and I´m trying to update the international indices, but they are updating untill the previous day. How can I get historical data untill the current day? |
To be able to update the indices if you are EOD user . You have to do it in the timeframe 1200am -800am This is due to the fact that this exchange works 24 hours. If you try to update these charts out of these timeframes you will not be able to do so. |

How can I include system, studies and indicators form the website? |
To include strategies form the website follow the corresponding steps.: Systems: - Download the file from http://www.visualchart.com/enxx/strategies/systems/systems.asp?seleccion=1(extensión .VBA or .FLW) in to the folderc:\programfiles\vchart4\documents\vba\strategies or in to the one you have chose to install the program.
- Once Visual Chart is openened go to the menu Systems , and click Modify System.
- In the dialog selection box select the downloaded file and open it.
- A window will pop up then .This window will be different depending on the file extension FLW or VBA.
- If the downloaded file has an .FLW extension (the system has been created with the visual design platforml), you will have to compile the system by clicking the tab"Create"
- On the other hand if the file has a VBA extension you will have to compile the system by cliking the menu , Debug ,and then Publish .

The markets are not appearing in the chart selection dialog box. What can I do? |
If the markets are not appearing it is possible that the folder exchange.dat is corrupted and you will have to overwrite it.To do so, follow these steps:
- Close Visual Chart.
- Download the file Quotes.dat
- Save the file Quotes.dat in the folder c:\programfiles\vchart4\data\general, (or in the directory where the application has been installed).
- Overwrite the existing file.
- Run the application again and double check that the markets are avaylable.

I have inserted a system and I am not getting any signals in the chart .Why is that? |
If the system does not show any signals in the chart this can be due to several reasons:
- Check in the tab adjustments inside the system properties that the option budget is not activated and if it is activated, it needs to have a budget selected
- Optimize the system this way we will know which parameters are the best ones .May be with the parameters you have selected the conditions are never fulfilled so the system never enters the market.
- Maybe there is not historical data enough in your chart .You should do an intraday download then.

I am trying to compile a system and I get an Error message . , Why? |
If you are getting and error message while compiling a system check the following options:
- If you have created the system yourself double check the system syntax..
- If the system is based upon and indicator , this indicator must be installed and compiled , if not the system will never work.

I have compiled the system correctly .I try to insert it in the chart and it does not appear in the dialog selection box. What do I need to verify? |
If the strategy does not appear in the catalog verify the following options :
- Check that the strategy has been saved in the correct folder depending if it is a system an indicator or a study.
- Remenber that in the strategy has been created in VBA, you will have to compile it from the menu Debug, and then Publish.

How can I visualize one after the other the charts of a quote list? |
To do so follow these steps:
- Open any chart
- Look for an Icon that you will find in the main bar formed by three green squares. The middle one has three points inside it and the other two have two arrows one through the right and one though the left
- By cliking on the central icon you will see the quote´list selection dialog box.
- Click on the quote you do want to visuallize the charts form and click in OK.
- To finish click the icons with the arrows to move over the quote in one direction or another.

I am working with several screens , How can I manage it with Visual Chart? |
If you wish to use more than a screen follow these steps:
- Open Visual Chart
- Restore the main window from the menu Restore that you will find in the upper right side of the screen.
- Click in the upper right corner of the screen and dragg the window towards the other screen
- When visual chart window will be extended to both screens you can maximize it or extend it in a way to be able to organize the information of your workspace in both screens.

How can I erase a graphic object inserted in the chart without having to erase all of them by using the option "clean screen"? |
You can do it two differents ways :
- Place the mouse pointer over the objet you do want to erase , for example a support and left click on it. Once the object is selected press the key Del on your keyboard .
- You could do it as well by using the graphic object manager
- You will find this icon on the toolbar it is formed by three squares(red, yellow and green) with the form of a stair.
- By clicking thes icon you will see a pannel on the left side of the window where all the objects inserted in the charts are shown (charts, quotes, lined, indicators etc...)
- You can select any of the object in this window and delete it again with the key Del or by letft clicking once and right click then and selet -> Delete

How can i transform the data of a quote list or chart (intraday or daily) in to a text format in order to use them with another program? |
To export data to text follow these steps:
From a chart :- Open the chart you wish to export in to a text format.
- Right click the chart with the mouse
- Select the option Export chart to tex.
- Save the file with a name .
From a quote list: - Open a quote list with the symbols you do want to export.
- Then click the quote Menu-> Export -> Export to text
- You will see then a dialog box showing you the folders where you can save your document and where you can rename it.
- In the text file the last tick of each of the quote value will be saved.

To recover the start configuration follow these steps:
- Click the option View in the main menu.
- Then select the option Toolbar and click Customize .
- In this configuration window, in the tab toolbars select the option Reset all.

Wich folders do I need to copy and paste to move the information from one computer to another? |
To use the information from visual chart in another computer follow these steps:
- If you need your workspaces , charts, quotes lists, ... You will have to copy the folder Documents wich will be found in C:\ program files\Vchart4 (or in the directory where the application has been installed).
- If you want to move historicall data you will have to copy the folder RealServer which will be found in C:\ Program files\Vchart4\data\01 (or in the directory where the application has been installed).
- If you want to move all the information you can copy the folder vchart4
- Before you use your workspace in this new computer remenber to go to Visual Chart menu File -> Strategies -> Compile all VBA projects.
Remenber not to copy files form different versions of the software .For example if you have Visual Chart 3 do not move the folders in to a computer where you have VisualChart 4. In this case , in the computer where you have Visual Chart 3 you will have to install Visual Chart 4 to update all the files before you move them in to the other computer. |

- You need to chose a nickname to identify yourself and then click apply.
